Look around, look around
Look at where you are
Look at where you started
The fact that you’re alive is a miracle
Just stay alive, that would be enough
~Lin-Manuel Miranda, from the musical Hamilton, “That Would be Enough”

To me every hour of the light and dark is a miracle,
Every cubic inch of space is a miracle,
Every square yard of the surface of the earth is spread with the same,
Every foot of the interior swarms with the same.
To me the sea is a continual miracle,
The fishes that swim—the rocks—the motion of the waves—the ships with men in them,
What stranger miracles are there?
~Walt Whitman “Miracles”

It’s not complicated. Really.
The signs are everywhere.
If I have the discipline, the desire to pay attention I can easily be invited into an awareness of the bounty of life.
When I was a young mother a friend, many years older said if you can get yourself up before sunrise it’s wonderful. She was right. There is so much in the unfolding drama of a new day that can literally take one’s breath away – whether on land or ocean.
Pay attention.
Be astonished.
Tell about it.
~Mary Oliver
So I try to keep my eyes and my heart open to what each day brings.
And that is enough.
